South and upslope from visitor center; above Bear Gulch Reservoir Trail; across Bear Gulch from Discovery Wall; in between large rock formations. This was a difficult site to get to. We departed from reservoir trail about 1/4 mile below the reservoir and traversed over difficult terrain (boulders and chaparral). (Better access route to stand is from behind Head Ranger's residence - KD 5/29/03). Plot is outlined with pines and large rocks as well as chamise, but it's northern aspect allows for dense Prunus etc.
